Hi Folks. New to the Forum. Like most times it seems a question about a specific firearm brings me to the forum but then I end up staying longer than I probably should. It all that information I didn't know I needed to know that draws me back once I make initial contact. So here goes.
I'm looking at a New Model Blackhawk in 30 carbine and I was on the Ruger website trying to check the serial number for it's birth date and couldn't find the serial number. This revolver has a prefix number of 51- rather than the 32- through 38-prefix I see on the Ruger website. Can anyone tell me what this is about?
Before you ask, yes it does say 'Ruger .30 carbine cal, New Model Blackhawk' on the left side of the frame and the serial number is on the right side of the frame.
I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to Ruger firearms so I thought this would be the place to ask.
Thank You.
Dave

Ruger New Model Blackhawk Serial Number History
Ruger does not necessarily produce firearms in serial number order. There are occasions when blocks of serial numbers have been manufactured out of sequence, sometimes years later. Also, within a model family the same serial number prefix may be used to produce a variety of different models, all in the same block of serial numbers. Blackhawk Serial Numbers rollmarked with.357 Cal. Blackhawk Revolvers beginning in 2013. The above chart shows the approximate first serial number shipped for the indicated year. This number should be used as a point of reference only.
